UNITED Condemns Violence and Provocation: A Call to Keep Conflict Out of Our Communities

On behalf of UNITED, we strongly condemn the recent violent assault in Amsterdam targeting members of the local Jewish community. This incident, occurring near the solemn remembrance of Kristallnacht, underscores the dangers that hatred and imported conflicts pose to our societies.
We condemn all forms of violence and provocations that escalate tensions within our communities. Importing international conflicts and grievances into our shared spaces is deeply harmful and serves only to divide and destabilize. Regardless of global unrest, there is no justification for acts of intimidation, provocation, or violence. It is unfortunate how much football is a contributing factor and how little is done about this.

We urge authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident and to hold accountable all those responsible, whether for direct violence or for incitement by any involved parties prior and after the match. We further call for comprehensive preventive measures and programs aimed at fostering community cohesion and resilience against hate. Only by working together to reduce hostility can we prevent similar incidents in the future.

At UNITED, we remain steadfast in our commitment to fostering tolerance, understanding, and peace across communities. We call on governments, institutions, and civil society to stand united against violence and division, ensuring that all people can live free from fear and hostility based on their identity or background.
