U4EU 2.0: Youth Shaping Europe’s Tomorrow meeting in Barcelona and Lisbon

Youth Workshop on Glocalization, Gentrification, and Culture in Barcelona
The first event of the U4EU 2.0 project took place in Barcelona on October 30-31. The workshop provided an informative and engaging exploration of the topics of glocalization, gentrification, and culture. Participants worked in groups to debate these subjects, generating diverse perspectives that led to the development of practical ideas. Each group presented its process and findings, showing unique approaches to the discussed challenges.

Discussions from the workshop carried on informally during breaks, highlighting the relevance and complexity of the issues. To provide further context, participants were guided through a tour of Barcelona, where historically significant sites and buildings illustrated the real-world impacts of gentrification. This experience offered an eye-opening perspective on the scale and severity of urban transformation.

Youth Workshop on Migration, Discrimination, and Intolerance in Lisbon
The second event was held in Lisbon on November 14-15, focusing on migration, discrimination, and intolerance. The workshop began with a session led by guest speaker Alexandre Teixeira, whose insights provided participants with a strong foundation on the topic. This knowledge was later applied during group work, where participants were tasked with developing multi-step solutions to address specific challenges related to migration and intolerance.

Through collaborative problem-solving, participants formulated clear and actionable ideas, underscoring the potential for progress when tackling critical issues. The event also included visits to institutions actively working in the field of migration. These visits offered an inspiring view of the meaningful initiatives underway and showcased the tangible impact of such efforts.

Both workshops exemplified the U4EU 2.0 project’s commitment to fostering democratic and civic participation among young citizens from Greece, Bulgaria, Spain, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Belgium, Hungary, and the Netherlands. By providing spaces for discussion, collaboration, and real-world exploration, these events empowered participants to address pressing societal challenges and contribute to shaping a more inclusive Europe.
