Europe-wide campaign invites people to #GiveItUp4Ramadan

30 activists from 13 different European countries are organising a new campaign, inviting people all over Europe to give something up for Ramadan.

The #GiveItUp4Ramadan campaign aims to promote social cohesion by inviting non-Muslims to show solidarity with their Muslim friends and neighbours who are fasting for the holy month of Ramadan.

Traditionally Muslims abstain from eating and drinking during daylight hours for all 30 days of Ramadan, but participants do not have to go to such great lengths to get involved. “The message of #GiveItUp4Ramadan is that anyone can participate with their own challenge” say the organisers in a press release.” What would you be willing to give up? Coffee for two days, no Netflix for a month, donate to charity or maybe even have a go at fasting?”

The campaign was launched in Amsterdam at an event about prevention of radicalisation as part of the Dutch EU Presidency, attended by Dutch Deputy Prime Minister Lodewijk Assche and Minister of Security and Justice Ard Van der Steur.

More information can be found on the campaign website or Facebook page, which also includes a campaign video.
