Season’s Greetings from UNITED – Highlights of 2018

Seasonal greetings

Dear Colleagues,

Another eventful year for the UNITED network is almost over as the end of 2018 is approaching. Populist and far-right narratives all over Europe are on the rise and 2018 has shown that the work of the European antiracist movement continues to be crucial.

For UNITED, 2018 has been an active year full of activities and campaigns. The year began with our annual European Action Week Against Racism campaign. Under the slogan “Diversity – Never enough”, hundreds of activities were organised all over Europe.

This was followed in May by the conference “Building Shared Space – Best Practices in Integration”, which took place 22-25 May 2018 in Budapest, Hungary. In September 2018, a conference was organised entitled “Modern-day Activism – Listen to the Voice of Migrants” in Lithuania.

The UNITED List of Refugee Deaths received considerable media attention in 2018 again, raising awareness of the ever-increasing fatalities of European migration policies.

Our 9 November International Day Against Fascism and Antisemitism campaign of 2018 focused on actively standing up against fascism and far-right hatred with the slogan “Speak up now! Fighting fascism is not radical, it’s necessary.”

We are already preparing for our action-packed 2019 programme! We will soon send out the call for nominations for our spring conference, as well as details of the 2019 European Action Week Against Racism campaign and EP elections campaign.

In the meantime, we would like to wish you all the best for the festive period, and a very happy new year.

Best greetings and stay UNITED!
