CIVIS is once again honouring programmes broadcast on radio, television and on the Internet which promote the peaceful co-existence of people from the most diverse geographical and cultural backgrounds. We are seeking entries which reflect the rapid transformation of our European societies. For the media are instrumental in shaping the image of these developments and can render a crucial contribution towards fostering social integration. Yet following the successful integration policies adopted in many European countries, the EU is now confronted with new challenges.For Europe has not become any more secure. And in attempting to cross the EU’s external borders thousands of people are dying each year. Due to their impact upon minorities, global migration and international crises, as in Syria or Iraq, now have a direct bearing upon the domestic political situation within the EU.
In addition to flight and asylum, the focus now is very much on the development of an integrated and culturally diverse society, which does not gloss over potential conflicts, and which ensures equality, recognition and participation in society’s opportunities – regardless of national, ethnic or religious background. Integration is a mutual process, involving each and every one of us. CIVIS is dedicated to supporting this process of European integration and mediating these issues effectively to the general public.
