International Refugee Day
June 20, 2015 /// 00:00
On 4th December 2001 the UN General Assembly Resolution proclaimed 20th June as the World Refugee Day. In occasion of this date various activities (demonstrations, conferences, festivals and exhibitions) in support of refugees will take place all over Europe.Since several years UNITED co-ordinates an international refugee campaign where the mail issues emphasizes are:
– Denouncing the European policies in matter of asylum and immigration that are more and more restrictive, as result of which UNITED documented more than 20.000 death cases of refugees and asylum seekers who had died at Europe’s borders and inside detention and deportation centres all over Europe.
– Promoting a society where migrants and asylum seekers have not to face racism and discrimination.
– Showing Refugees not as victims of circumstances but as individuals who are contributing to the cultural enrichment and the diversity of society.
UNITED calls upon organisations to contribute to this awareness raising campaign. Keep the secretariat informed about your activities. For further information visit our site, look under campaigns.
