Even today states have therefore the duty to treat all people with equal dignity and to submit the same opportunities regardless of their nationality, social status or gender to them. In this sense “equality” does not mean the individual situation of the people or their skills are identical, but rather that the freedom of one can not be a burden to the freedom of others. But the reality in the world and in Germany is another – e.g. the gap between rich and poor people in Germany widened since the mid-eighties, as a report by the OECD shows. Thereon this year’s GEW should draw attention! The goal is to make the themes of global learning more known in educational institutions and to the public. Therefore NGOs, schools, universities, government institutions, local and regional initiatives are invited to organise an event (e.g. workshop, exhibition, film, teaching unit, project days, etc.) as part of the GEW. Especially children and youth should be involved.”
